16 minutes ago DAMASCUS (AFP) - Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Damascus on Saturday for talks with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on efforts to reconcile the Palestinian president's Fatah party and the rival Islamist movement Hamas. Abbas stressed the "importance of coordination and consultations with Damascus on the Palestinian cause and the peace process" now underway between Israel and Syria through indirect, Turkish-mediated talks, the official SANA news agency reported.
